Gangtok gives you the lake and the monastery side of Sikkim. Darjeeling gives you the tea slopes and the sunrise. Keeping two nights in each means you unpack twice, not every day, and the road between them is a short hill drive in your own cab.

126 km from Bagdogra Airport. Our representative receives you at Bagdogra Airport / NJP Railway Station and escorts you to the hotel in Gangtok. Register at the reception and relax — the rest of the day is at leisure. Stroll around the local markets or try Tibetan food. In the evening, walk at MG Marg, a great place to chill out — a litter-free and spit-free zone where no vehicles are allowed. Overnight: Gangtok.
40 km, about 1.5 hours one way. After a filling breakfast, drive to Tsomgo (Changu) Lake, known for its changing colours and one of the most visited places near Gangtok. Visit Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir, built in memory of Late Major Baba Harbhajan Singh. Return to the hotel in Gangtok for dinner and overnight stay. Tip: you can also visit Nathula Pass — an inner line permit is required and the charges are extra. Overnight: Gangtok.
After breakfast, drive to Darjeeling through winding roads and tea gardens, reaching by late afternoon. Hotel check-in and rest. In the evening, walk along Mall Road, visit Chowrasta (The Mall) and the Mahakal Temple near Mall Road. Tip: enjoy the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train) joy ride — it is booked directly through IRCTC and the charges are extra. Overnight: Darjeeling.
Very early morning, go to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjunga. Visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop, a toy train track that spirals around the Gorkha War Memorial. Return to the hotel for breakfast, then start the full day city tour: Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and PNZ Zoological Park (both closed on Thursday), Darjeeling Ropeway (charges extra), Tenzing Rock, Gombu Rock and a tea garden, Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (closed on Sunday), Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay. Overnight: Darjeeling.
